24-unit condominium complex approved to replace Belmar Inn – Star News Group
BELMAR — A construction project for a 24-unit condominium complex on the 12th Avenue site of the Auberge Belmar was approved by the borough planning council on July 28. The proposed project, under discussion since 2018, is the subject of public opposition.
According to Edelman Investment Group LLC’s site application, the building will have “three floors of living units,” along with a fourth unit for parking. Each of the 24 units will have two bedrooms. The overall height of the building will be 42.5 feet, with an elevator shaft extending an additional 14.5 feet.
Board Vice Chairman John Lisko cast the only “no” vote on the bid.
The Belmar Inn structure is to be razed to make way for the new complex, which will be located at 112-114 12th Avenue and 108-108 ½ 12th Avenue, according to the meeting agenda.
Opponents of the project, including Steve Bloom of A Street, said while they welcome the replacement of the Belmar Inn, the borough’s master plan calls for single-family homes or townhouses on the site, rather than a large condominium building, which they consider unsuitable. to the character of the neighborhood.
