Five condominium security guards detained for assaulting teen in Sector 49

Police arrested five private security guards from the company Orchid Petals in Sector 49 for allegedly assaulting a 15-year-old boy as he tried to enter the residential compound with four of his friends for a pre-Diwali party the evening of October 15.

Cops say the arrest took place on Tuesday night following an investigation in which allegations that guards slapped the boy were found to be true. The minor is a resident of another condominium in Gwal Pahadi. The arrested guards were identified as Rohtash Kumar, Bhupender Singh, Radheshyam, Man Singh and Jitender Singh. Police said Jitender is from Bharatpur in Rajasthan while the others are from different districts of Uttar Pradesh.

Sanjeev Kumar, deputy police commissioner (sadar), said police scanned CCTV footage of the township entrance and found that the five guards assaulted the underage boy. “Such incidents cannot be tolerated and further investigation is underway,” he said. The five guards were released on bail from the Sector 50 police station on Wednesday, investigators added. “The five guards were on duty at the entrances but their faces were unclear in the CCTV footage,” said a police officer with knowledge of the matter.

Parveen Kukreja, president of the Resident Welfare Association, Orchid Petals, said she was seeking legal advice to protect the interests of security guards. “These poor guys are not at fault. They were providing our security as per orders given to them. No strangers are allowed inside the company,” he said, refuting claims that the miner allegedly assaulted Kukreja said the boys were at fault and that they walked more than 10 km and tried to force their way into society.
